Cher’s ongoing legal battle involving her son Elijah Blue Allman has taken another dramatic turn after new court filings revealed the singer allegedly stopped financially supporting him years ago. The latest claims surfaced as Elijah seeks to reduce the spousal support payments he makes to estranged wife Marieangela King. The dispute arrives just weeks after Cher’s temporary conservatorship request over her son was denied in court. The filing has now pulled renewed attention to the family’s strained relationship, Elijah’s legal troubles, and the pop icon’s concerns about his mental health and addiction struggles.

Cher’s Son Elijah Blue Claims Financial Support Ended Years Ago

According to court documents filed on May 5 in Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by Daily Mail, Elijah Blue Allman claimed Cher stopped providing him with “recurring gift income” in August 2021. The 49-year-old alleged he now “receives only $10,000 per month from his father’s trust.”

The filing was submitted as part of Elijah’s request to lower the spousal support payments he currently makes to estranged wife Marieangela King. Court records state that Elijah pays King $6,500 monthly, though his attorneys are now asking the court to reduce that amount to $1,651 per month.

Elijah reportedly claimed his remaining income leaves him with only $6,790 after taxes. He also alleged that King “made no efforts to become self-supporting” after the pair separated in 2021.

The former couple’s relationship has seen several twists over the years. Elijah initially filed for divorce in 2021 before later moving to dismiss the filing “without prejudice” in January 2024. A judge approved that dismissal the following month. However, King filed for divorce herself in April 2025. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for July 17.

The financial dispute surfaced alongside Cher’s renewed conservatorship battle involving Elijah following his arrests fearlier this year. Court filings alleged Elijah has “no concept of money” and is “unable to manage his financial resources” because of allegedly “severe” mental health and addiction issues.

Cher further claimed her son “spends any money he gets immediately,” often on “drugs, expensive hotels and limousine transportation.”

Cher’s Two Sons Ended Up Living Very Different Lives

As Elijah’s legal and personal struggles continue making headlines, the contrasting journeys of Cher’s two sons, Elijah Blue Allman and Chaz Bono comes to light.

Cher welcomed Chaz Bono with late entertainer Sonny Bono in 1969 before later having Elijah with Gregg Allman in 1976. While both sons grew up around fame and music, their adult lives unfolded very differently.

Chaz largely maintained a steady public image over the years, eventually building a career in acting and advocacy. Cher once described Chaz as a child who “never did a thing wrong. Never, it was unbelievable.”

The pair have remained notably close throughout adulthood, with Chaz previously praising his mother’s unwavering support during his transition. A source close to the family told PEOPLE that Cher said, “I admire my son Chaz’s courage for sharing his personal journey. Most important to me is that he is very happy. That’s what I care about the most. He has my love and support.”

Elijah’s relationship with Cher, however, has often appeared far more turbulent. The singer openly acknowledged their struggles during a past appearance on Dr. Phil, admitting, “He and I have such a bizarre relationship. We’ve had so many strange moments. I don’t really understand him. Somehow, Elijah and I kind of talk through osmosis.”

Elijah also spoke candidly about reconnecting with his late father Gregg Allman after years of distance. “I’ve seen my dad a lot more in the last year than I have in a long time,” he told the Daily Mail in 2014. “That was something that was absent when I was growing up, and it’s important to mend fences now in our relationship.”

Despite the public family turmoil, Cher has repeatedly emphasized how much motherhood means to her. Reflecting on balancing fame with parenting, she once admitted, “But it’s really hard in my job. It doesn’t necessarily mix well with having children.”

Still, the music icon made her feelings about both sons clear when she added, “My life would have been nothing without them.”
