Millie Bobby Brown Defends Jake Bongiovi’s Parenting After Viral Car Seat Photos: “When Did Women Become Incapable of Holding Their Bags?”

Millie Bobby Brown is not here for the internet parenting police. The Stranger Things star clapped back hard at critics who’ve been dragging her husband Jake Bongiovi for months over photos that showed her hauling a car seat, backpacks, and baby gear while he walked alongside.

In a new episode of Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast, Millie finally addressed the viral backlash, and she didn’t hold back. “Hi, I’m Millie Bobby Brown and I’m not gonna lie, when did women become incapable of holding their own bags, car seats and stuff?”

The Viral Photos That Started It All

The drama blew up last August when paparazzi shots from 2025 went mega-viral. Millie, then 21, was spotted hauling multiple bags and their daughter’s car seat (the couple welcomed their little girl through adoption that summer), while Jake, 24, appeared to be carrying nothing.
Critics jumped on it hard, questioning his support as a new parent. Similar snaps later showed her pushing the stroller too. Social media had a field day, with plenty of comments accusing him of not pulling his weight. But according to Millie, those snapshots don’t tell the full story.

Millie’s Podcast Clapback

On the June 11 episode of the podcast, Millie didn’t mince words. “Hi, I’m Millie Bobby Brown and I’m not gonna lie, when did women become incapable of holding their own bags, car seats and stuff?” she said, clearly over the criticism.
“This stems from me holding all of my suitcases and bags and my kid and people are like, ‘Your husband doesn’t hold a single thing.’ And I’m like, ‘Because I’m three miles ahead. I have been planning this all night.” She added that she’s totally capable of handling things herself, and that Jake knows it.

The Double Standard She’s Calling Out

Millie praised Jake as “the most polite, sweet, will-do-anything-for-me” guy and said he fully respects her independence. “Nobody knows my husband, but he also knows I’m capable,” she added.

What really stood out was her bigger point about the weird double standard in how we talk about parenting and gender roles. Everyone cheers “strong independent women” and “you don’t need a man,” but the moment a mom handles her own bags and baby gear, suddenly the internet assumes the dad isn’t stepping up. It’s the kind of thing that makes you realize how quick people are to judge celebrity families from one snapshot.

Fans Reaction and Where the Couple Stands Now

Fans are split. Some are cheering Millie for clapping back at the trolls and defending her marriage, while others still think parenting should look more like obvious teamwork, especially with a baby involved.
At the end of the day, Millie and Jake, who quietly married in 2024 before throwing a big Italian celebration, seem happy and focused on their growing family. Millie made it clear she’s not letting outsiders dictate how they do things.
