Following its 2020 premiere, the “Ted Lasso” cast gained enormous popularity. The series follows Ted Lasso, an American football coach who takes charge of AFC Richmond despite having little experience with soccer. The comedy became an awards-season favorite while its stars continued to build successful careers in television, film and theater. Here’s a look at some of the most noteworthy actors from the series and what they are doing now.
Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso
Jason Sudeikis plays Ted Lasso, the upbeat coach whose optimism and faith in his players transform AFC Richmond. Before joining the series, Sudeikis was best known for his work on “Saturday Night Live” and movies such as “Booksmart,” “Horrible Bosses” and “We’re the Millers.” He also serves as an executive producer on the series.
Sudeikis returned as Ted for season four, which premiered Aug. 5, 2026. In the new season, Ted returns to Richmond to coach a second-division women’s soccer team.
Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton
Hannah Waddingham plays Rebecca Welton, the owner of AFC Richmond. Rebecca initially buys the club to get revenge on her ex-husband, Rupert. However, her relationship with Ted and the team gradually changes her priorities. Before she became part of the “Ted Lasso” cast, Waddingham built a career in musical theater and television. Her credits include “Game of Thrones” and “Sex Education.” Her performance as Rebecca earned her an Emmy Award.
Since joining “Ted Lasso,” Waddingham has expanded her film and television work. She appeared in “Mission: Impossible, Dead Reckoning” and “Mission: Impossible, The Final Reckoning.” She also starred alongside Octavia Spencer in the action-comedy “Ride or Die” and hosted the Apple TV+ special “Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas.” Waddingham returned as Rebecca for season four.

Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent

Goldstein had already established himself as an actor, writer and comedian in Britain before “Ted Lasso” increased his international profile. He also worked as a writer and producer on the “Ted Lasso” series. After “Ted Lasso,” Goldstein co-created and produced the Apple TV+ comedy “Shrinking,” in which he also appeared as Louis. He also played Hercules in Marvel’s “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
In 2026, Goldstein stars opposite Jennifer Lopez in the Netflix romantic comedy “Office Romance,” which he co-wrote. Goldstein returned as Roy Kent for season four.
Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard
Brendan Hunt plays Coach Beard, Ted’s longtime friend and most dependable assistant. While Beard is quieter than Ted, he remains one of Richmond’s most dedicated members. Hunt also helped create and produce “Ted Lasso,” making him an important part of the show behind the scenes. He continues to work in sports media and co-hosts “After the Whistle” with Rebecca Lowe. The podcast returned for a third season in 2026, with coverage surrounding the FIFA World Cup. Hunt also returned as Coach Beard for season four.
Jeremy Swift as Higgins
Jeremy Swift plays Leslie Higgins, AFC Richmond’s director of football operations. Higgins initially works closely with Rebecca, but he gradually becomes one of the club’s most loyal employees. Swift had a long acting career before joining “Ted Lasso.” His previous credits include “Downton Abbey” and “Mary Poppins Returns.” Swift returned as Higgins for season four alongside Sudeikis, Waddingham, Temple, Goldstein and Hunt.
Phil Dunster as Jamie Tartt
Phil Dunster plays Jamie Tartt, a talented but arrogant striker at AFC Richmond. Jamie begins the series as a self-centered player whose confidence often crosses the line. Over time, he becomes more mature and learns to put the team ahead of himself. Before “Ted Lasso,” Dunster appeared in “Murder on the Orient Express,” “Catherine the Great,” “Dracula,” “The Devil’s Hour” and “Surface.” He also appeared in the West End production of “Oklahoma!” Dunster is not among the core cast members returning for season four. He will not be a series regular in the new season.
Nick Mohammed as Nathan Shelley
Nick Mohammed plays Nathan Shelley, better known as Nate. He starts as an equipment manager at Richmond before rising through the club’s coaching ranks. His transformation from an overlooked employee to an antagonist gives the series one of its major storylines. Mohammed had already established himself as a comedian and actor in Britain before joining “Ted Lasso.” His earlier credits include “The Martian” and “Stath Lets Flats.” He later appeared in “Maggie Moore(s),” “Deep Cover” and the fifth season of “Slow Horses.” Mohammed is not among the core cast members confirmed for season four.
What Happened to the “Ted Lasso” Franchise?
After season three ended in 2023, the future of “Ted Lasso” remained uncertain. Apple officially renewed the series for a fourth season on March 14, 2025, with Sudeikis returning as Ted and executive producer. Season four premiered Aug. 5, 2026, and shifts the focus to women’s soccer. Ted returns to Richmond to coach a second-division women’s team. The season also brings back Waddingham, Temple, Goldstein, Hunt and Swift while introducing several new characters. The new season gives “Ted Lasso” a fresh direction while keeping several familiar faces.
