For many, Amber Heard remains tied to the headlines that dominated 2022. But far from the courtroom drama involving Johnny Depp, her life today tells a calmer, more personal story. As reported by the Daily Mail on Thursday, April 23, 2026, the actress, who turned 40 this week, has stepped away from Hollywood’s spotlight and settled into a low-key routine in Madrid, where family, privacy, and a slower pace now take center stage.
Amber Heard’s Journey From Hollywood Spotlight to Personal Reset
Heard’s rise began with the 2006 film All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, eventually leading to global recognition and a steady presence in major productions. Her relationship with Depp, whom she met in 2009 while filming The Rum Diary, later became one of the most talked-about celebrity unions of the decade.
They began dating in 2012 and married in 2015, but the relationship quickly unraveled. In May 2016, Heard filed for divorce and sought a restraining order, accusing Depp of abuse. Reflecting on that period, she told the Associated Press: “I am very happy that I have moved on with my life and keep moving on with my life. I just keep wanting to do with my life that which makes it better for other people and myself.”
She continued: “And doing the right thing and moving forward and dedicating yourself to justice, truth, to doing what’s right and helping others when you can – that’s everything to me. That’s all I’m interested in.”
The legal battle escalated in March 2019 when Depp filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit over Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed. The case culminated in a six-week televised trial in Virginia that concluded on June 1, 2022, with Depp awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages (later reduced), while Heard received $2 million in her countersuit.
After both parties appealed, the case was settled in December 2022. At the time, the mom-of-three said: “After a great deal of deliberation I have made a very difficult decision to settle the defamation case brought against me by my ex-husband in Virginia.”
She added: “It’s important for me to say that I never chose this. I defended my truth and in doing so my life as I knew it was destroyed.”
A New Chapter in Spain Focused on Family and Privacy
In the aftermath of the trial, Heard made a decisive move away from the U.S., initially relocating to Mallorca under the alias Martha Jane Cannary. She later settled in Madrid with her daughter, Oonagh Paige, seeking distance from the intense public scrutiny.
According to People, a source shared: “The trial was beyond stressful, and she wanted to start fresh,” adding that she now “has new energy and is focused on things that she loves.”
By 2024, reports indicated she had purchased a €1.5 million home in Madrid’s Chamartin district, where she has blended into the local community. A neighbor told the Daily Mail: “She lives here and I often see her walking her daughter to school in the mornings.”
They added: “She wears a cap and sunglasses and normal clothes and keeps a low profile.”
Heard has embraced her new environment, even speaking Spanish fluently in public encounters. When approached by photographers during her pregnancy, she responded: “Thank you very much. It is my private life and I ask for respect.”
Asked if she plans to remain in Spain, she said: “Yes, I hope so. Yes, I love living here. I hope you are well, ciao. And thank you, nice to meet you.”
Her focus on family has only grown. In May 2025, she announced the birth of her twins, Agnes and Ocean, writing: “Mother’s Day 2025 will be one I’ll never forget.”
She added: “I thought I couldn’t possibly burst with more joy. Well, now I am bursting times three!!!”
While she briefly returned to acting in 2025 with Spirit of the People, as reported by Variety, her priorities appear firmly rooted in her personal life. For Heard, Madrid represents more than just a change in location, it marks a deliberate shift toward rebuilding on her own terms.
