Billie Eilish began her “Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour” in September 2024.Fans quickly noticed something different.

As the rumor grew fast, Billie was not going to let it slide.

In a joint interview with Finneas for Elle magazine’s May 2026 cover story, published on April 28, the 24-year-old singer spoke clearly and directly. “I heard somebody say, ‘Did you guys hear Finneas and Billie had a falling-out?’” she recalled. She then shut it down completely, making it clear that she and her brother have never had a falling-out and never will.

What Really Happened: A Decision Years in the Making

So if there was no fight, why was Finneas missing from the tour? According to both siblings, the answer is simple and it actually makes a lot of sense.

Over the years, Finneas built his own music career outside of Billie’s projects. He released his solo album For Cryin’ Out Loud! in 2024 and even put out a full record in 2025 with singer-songwriter Ashe under the name The Favors.

According to Billie, the two of them had grown so busy that during her old tours, they would barely even see each other backstage. She and Finneas used to perform on a raised platform that was hard to leave, so they were stuck in separate spots the whole night.

She joked that it was like he felt stuck on the raised platform, like Rapunzel in a tower. She said she could feel that Finneas had more to offer the world than being in the back of her band.

Finneas agreed. He told Elle that he does not enjoy touring as a lifestyle, though he loves performing.Finneas wrote Billie a heartfelt letter before the tour began, attended several shows, and even joined her onstage for some performances. During the tour, he admitted he missed her deeply.

Their Bond Is Unbreakable and Brutally Honest

What makes the Billie-and-Finneas relationship so special is that it is more than just a musical partnership. They are siblings first and Billie explained that with siblings, you can say the hardest, most honest things to each other and still come back together five minutes later as if nothing happened.

Billie also made clear how much she needs him creatively. Without Finneas, she says she might never write another song again. That is a big statement from someone who has given the world so many unforgettable hits.

The siblings have won 10 Grammy Awards together, including their most recent Song of the Year win for “Wildflower”, making them the first artists ever to win that Grammy category three times. They also share two Oscar wins, for “No Time to Die” and “What Was I Made For?” from the “Barbie” film.

Going Solo on Stage And Learning to Love It Again

The “Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour” was also a personal challenge for Billie in another way. It was her first time managing a major world tour on her own terms, without leaning on her brother for support each night.

Billie said she fought hard to protect her schedule. To support her mental health, she insisted on breaks every four weeks. The singer never wants to stop loving live performance. When she starts to feel burned out, she knows it is time to step back and recharge.

James Cameron, a Concert Film, and a Mom Who Made It Happen

On top of managing a solo tour, Billie also worked on turning her stage show into a full concert film. At first, she did not want to do it. She had already been filmed for a documentary from ages 15 to 18, and she said she values her privacy now more than ever.

But then her mom delivered some surprising news. Usually, big business deals go through managers and agents. This time, it was Billie’s own mother who told her that famous director James Cameron had been quietly watching her shows from a distance and was a huge fan.

That changed everything. Together, Billie and Cameron co-directed “Hit Me Hard and Soft, The Tour (Live in 3D)” set to hit theaters on May 8. Billie said the idea of capturing her show on film, so she can watch it when she is old and feel like she is right back on that stage, gave her chills.

Using Her Voice for More Than Music

Billie also used the “Elle” interview to talk about something bigger than music. She has been vocal about political issues, and some fans have pushed back. At the 2026 Grammy Awards, she wore an “ICE Out” pin and gave a speech encouraging people to keep fighting for justice. At the Wall Street Journal Innovator Awards, she called out billionaires for hoarding wealth while people suffer.

Billie said her family raised her to speak up. She believes staying quiet when people are hurting is the wrong choice, even if it causes controversy.

Giving Back Through Charity

She also backed up her words with action. She pledged $11.5 million from her tour earnings to multiple charities and organizations, nearly a quarter of her net worth.
