A sudden health scare involving Christina Applegate has sent shockwaves through Hollywood, prompting an emotional response from those closest to her. As concerns mounted, longtime friends and former co-stars reportedly rushed to be by her side, fearing the worst. While the actress continues to battle multiple sclerosis, the latest episode appears to have shaken even her inner circle, sparking heartfelt messages, urgent visits, and a renewed sense of how fragile time can be.

Christina Applegate’s Inner Circle Reacts to Health Crisis

The alarming development came after a severe flare-up of multiple sclerosis left Applegate hospitalized for nearly a month, according to a report by the Daily Mail published on Saturday, April 25. The situation quickly triggered an outpouring of support, with colleagues from across her decades-long career reaching out.

Among those who reportedly contacted her were Will Ferrell, Linda Cardellini, Jean Smart, Ed O’Neill, and Katey Sagal. For many, the urgency went beyond offering support.

‘They don’t think this is it for her, she’s not dying right now. But they wanted to make sure that nothing was left unsaid,’ a source who worked on the show and is still close with Applegate told the Daily Mail. ‘They told each other that they love each other.’

The emotional weight of the moment has been especially difficult for those who have known her the longest. Speaking about O’Neill, the insider added: ‘He is anguished. Just so worried about her, he loves her very much. Obviously it’s not like she’s on her deathbed, I don’t think, but she’s not doing well and anything can happen.

‘He hates to see her suffering, that really gets to him. So he’s offered whatever he can do to help. He’s family to her.’

Another source highlighted how quickly the situation escalated: ‘Christina is in and out of the hospital, but this time felt different because it’s been so long – and also she didn’t tell anyone she was going in.

‘So to her friends, it feels sudden and serious. But she’s not telling anyone really what it is, just that she’s going to get back on her feet.’

Why This Hospital Stay Feels Different to Those Close to Her

The Dead To Me actress’s struggle with multiple sclerosis, diagnosed in 2021, has been marked by increasing physical challenges, including numbness, dizziness, and mobility issues. The recent flare-up is said to be the most severe yet, leaving her largely bedridden during recovery.

Despite the seriousness, there are signs of cautious hope. ‘She is getting stronger, like she said. Less dizziness, less nausea. This was a bad one but she’s optimistic,’ a source shared.

The actress herself addressed fans on Instagram earlier this week, offering reassurance while acknowledging her ongoing battle. ‘Thank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes. Health issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better every day. I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough.’

Her representative declined to confirm hospitalization details but noted her long history of being open about her health journey.

The mom-of-one has previously described living with MS in stark terms. ‘One of the worst side-effects of [MS] is the exhaustion,’ she wrote in her memoir. ‘It feels as though I’ve been on a three-day sleepless bender – and that’s how I feel after a good night’s sleep. Hence all the time I spend on and in bed, snuggled up against my heating pad.

‘On the back of that diagnosis and the symptoms I face, I no longer care what I say or how I come across or how it makes anyone feel.

‘I don’t have patience for bulls*** any more, for things that are meaningless or merely “extra.”‘

For those around her, the situation has been deeply sobering. ‘She has always been so vibrant and full of life, despite her health issues,’ another insider said. ‘So to see her like this is devastating, and it really is tough for the people who love her. Of course they hope she lives to be 90, but they treat each time they see her as if it’ll be the last.’
