For years, David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown were one of television’s most beloved on-screen father-daughter duos. Their bond as Jim Hopper and Eleven became a cornerstone of Stranger Things. They helped turn the Netflix series into a global phenomenon. But after reports surfaced claiming Brown had filed a harassment and bullying complaint against Harbour before filming the final season, questions emerged about their real-life relationship. Now, Harbour is finally addressing the situation and explaining what really happened.

David Harbour Speaks Out on the Millie Bobby Brown Set Dispute

The controversy began in late 2025 when Daily Mail reported that Brown had filed a formal complaint against Harbour before production started on the fifth and final season of Stranger Things.

According to the report, the actress allegedly submitted a harassment and bullying complaint. This prompted an investigation that reportedly lasted several months. The outlet also claimed Brown had a representative present on set during filming. No allegations of sexual misconduct were reported. Also representatives for Netflix, Brown, and Harbour did not publicly comment on the claims at the time.

Months later, Harbour finally shared his perspective during an interview with Variety, describing the headlines surrounding the report as something that “came out in a weird way” and were “a weird thing.”

Reflecting on their decade-long working relationship, Harbour said, “In this weird world we live in, where sound bites will be created, I’m trying to figure out how to say this.”

He continued, “It’s a show that went on for 10 years. We worked together for 10 years during her formative teenage years, playing father and daughter. I don’t know if people have families and friends that you spend a lot of time with for 10 years, you occasionally get in arguments, disagreements.”

Harbour acknowledged that disagreements are natural but noted that the scale of a major television production can complicate matters.

While such conflicts may be “okay” in a family setting, he said being part of a “billion-dollar show” means “there’s just hundreds of people who want to get involved.”

David Harbour And Millie Bobby Brown Repaired Their Relationship

Rather than portraying the issue as a major falling-out, Harbour characterized it as a misunderstanding that was eventually resolved through direct communication.

According to the actor, the situation was far less dramatic than many headlines suggested.

“It was just a simple rupture-and-repair thing that, once we cleared everybody out of the way and talked to each other, we’re fine,” Harbour explained.

He also shared his frustration with how difficult open communication can sometimes become in the public eye.

“Everyone nowadays is very scared of talking about things. People are very scared of being human. It’s unfortunate, because I don’t know how to navigate this weird media world. But it was completely normal, and we adore each other and always have.”

His comments stand in contrast to speculation that the pair’s relationship had suffered permanent damage. Instead, Harbour insisted that the connection built during ten years of filming remains intact.

The actor even hinted that fans may not have seen the last of the duo working together.

“You’ll see more of me and Millie,” he teased. “Ten years wasn’t enough. There is a special bond there. I love her. She loves me.”

Brown has also spoken positively about Harbour in the months following the report.

In comments shared with Variety, the actress reflected on how much she changed during her years on Stranger Things and the role Harbour played throughout that journey.

“Obviously, I changed so much from season 1 to season 5, and David was there through all of it,” she wrote.

The actress explained that their working relationship evolved significantly over time.

“Over time, our relationship became much more collaborative creatively. When you work with someone for that many years, we could really push each other emotionally in scenes. Even though the series has ended, there’s still a lot of gratitude. Getting to share that experience with him for so many years is something I’ll always remember and value.”

Long before the recent controversy, both stars had spoken openly about the unique bond they developed while filming the series.

Back in 2018, Brown told fans at PaleyFest per Refinery29, “We went through so many different emotions… we get angry at each other, we are like father and daughter.”

She added, “We got angry at each other,” explaining that she and Harbour “would express our feelings on and off the set, and… those scenes were so raw and real that the reward is the scenes.”

Harbour echoed those sentiments in a 2021 interview when discussing his relationship with Brown. “Millie and I have always had sort of a special relationship because I knew her when she was so young. I knew her before any of this big fame hit,” he said.

After years of working side by side, both actors appear eager to move beyond the controversy and focus on the friendship they built over a decade. Their latest comments suggest that while disagreements may have occurred, the bond between them remains stronger than the headlines that once questioned it.
