Fenty Skin, Glow Recipe and Huda Beauty each announced grinder-style hydrogel eye patches within days of one another in September, after the Korean brand Wonder Bath launched the format in July. The overlap has led to public jokes and a dispute over packaging.
BeautyMatter reported the sequence. Fenty Skin pitched its Dew N Plump Fresh-Sliced Hydrogel Eye Patches to media on Sept. 17. Glow Recipe sent creators packages of its Exopeptide Caffeine Brighten & Depuff Fresh Slices Eye Mask on Sept. 20. Huda Beauty’s Undereye Jelly Patches appeared in a creator post Sept. 23, and Vitamasques gave a sneak peek of its own version in the same week.
What a Grinder Eye Patch Is
The patches come in a twist-to-slice dispenser, according to T2 Online. Fenty Skin described the packaging as airtight and said it “freshly cuts them one at a time, with just a twist.” Marie Claire explained the mechanism: a block of hydrogel sits in a figure-eight mold, which forms two crescents, and a blade in the lid advances the block a few millimeters and slices a fresh pair through a slot.
Wonder Bath, a Korean brand under the company CSA Cosmic, released its version in Korea in July as a 60-sheet product with what it calls a Fresh Slice System, according to T2 Online. Marie Claire reported that it sells for $29 on the brand’s website and that a U.S. launch is coming.
Launch Dates Differ Between Reports
Outlets disagree on when each brand made its move. BeautyMatter, Yahoo and T2 Online put Fenty’s first tease on Sept. 17. Marie Claire put it on Sept. 24. Cosmetics Business placed it between Sept. 18 and Sept. 22. For Glow Recipe, Yahoo Shopping said Sept. 18, BeautyMatter said Sept. 20 and Cosmetics
Business said Sept. 22. For Huda Beauty, Yahoo said a creator posted Sept. 18, Cosmetics Business said Sept. 22 and BeautyMatter said Sept. 23. Taken together, the reports place all three launches inside a window of Sept. 17 to 24. Prices are not confirmed. Marie Claire reported a rumored price in the low $40s for Fenty’s patches. Tyla reported about $40 and cited a Fenty launch expected in November, without confirmation. Glow Recipe declined to comment on price, BeautyMatter reported.
Fenty Skin’s response
Fenty Skin, the skincare line founded by Rihanna, answered the coincidence with a meme. It’s Instagram post showed a Spider-Man-pointing image of the four products, Cosmetics Business reported. The caption read: “Pulling up to the function with your hgs in the same fit like.”
Huda Kattan commented approvingly on the post. Charlotte Parler, a co-founder of Dieux, another skincare brand, commented that no one does social like Fenty. Glow Recipe posted its own meme, a “this is fine” image, and said in the post that the brand loves being in good company, Cosmetics Business reported.
The packaging supplier claim
Kattan, the founder of Huda Beauty, said the brands were hit by the same packaging supplier. “I think it’s pretty obvious that we all got screwed over by the same packaging supplier,” she wrote on Instagram. The formulas are different, she said, but “we were lied to on exclusivity,” according to Yahoo Shopping.
Christine Chang, co-founder and co-chief executive of Glow Recipe, disagreed with that description, BeautyMatter reported. Chang said she did not see it as a screwed-over situation. She said Glow Recipe saw an innovation it was excited about and that other brands appear to have felt the same.
Allison Kent-Gunn Garibay, a packaging expert quoted by BeautyMatter, said several Korean manufacturers supply the technology and that they make competing claims over who developed it. BeautyMatter reported that no exclusivity agreements appear to exist. Cosmetics Business said there is no public confirmation that the brands share a manufacturer.
Marie Claire named a possible supplier, Samhwa Co. in Uiwang, South Korea, and said the company has a minimum order of 5,000 units and has shipped dispensers to Maybelline, YSL, Innisfree, Dr. Jart+ and L’Oréal. Marie Claire was the only outlet to name the company. Wonder Bath responded to the controversy on social media by saying there is room for everyone in the market, according to Eurasian Beauty Journal.
Formulas and timing
The brands say their formulas differ. Glow Recipe’s is built around caffeine and exopeptides, according to its product name, and Fenty’s carries the “Dew N Plump” name. The brands have said the products will launch this fall, BeautyMatter reported. BeautyMatter framed the question as who will own the grinder eye patch. Wonder Bath launched first, in July. Marie Claire reported that Vitamasques has been producing its version since November 2025. Three larger brands announced theirs inside a single week.
