Jamie T’s “Ghosts (100 Days of Morning)” debuted at No. 1 on the UK Official Albums Chart dated Oct. 16-22, the singer-songwriter’s second chart-topper in a row. Chase & Status’ “Generic Everything” entered at No. 2 after both albums came out the same Friday.
The Official Charts Company announced the result on Oct. 16. Jamie T, whose full name is Jamie Alexander Treays, also took No. 1 on the Official Vinyl Albums Chart and the Official Record Store Chart. “Thanks to all the fans that made this happen,” he told Official Charts.
Where Ghosts Charted
Polydor Records released the album on Oct. 9. It is his sixth studio album and has 11 tracks. The Official Charts listing for the album shows it at No. 1 in six categories: albums, album sales, physical albums, vinyl albums, record store and Scottish albums. It also leads the Official Homegrown Chart.
Its best result among downloads was No. 5. That spread matters. Chase & Status’ album sits behind it in most of the same categories, which its chart page lists as follows:
- No. 2 on the main albums chart, the sales chart, the physical chart, the vinyl chart and the recordstore chart
- No. 1 on the Official Album Downloads Chart and the Official Dance Albums Chart
- No. 4 on the Official Scottish Albums Chart
- No. 45 on the Official Albums Streaming Chart
Official Charts does not publish unit totals or the margin between the two albums. The category positions show where each album was strongest. Jamie T beat Chase & Status in every physical-format category. Chase & Status beat him in downloads, 1 to 5. Warner Records issued the Chase & Status album.
A 20-Year Climb to No. 1
Jamie T’s Official Charts artist page lists six albums with these peaks and first chart dates:
- “Panic Prevention”: No. 4, Feb. 10, 2007 – “Kings & Queens”: No. 2, Sept. 19, 2009
- “Carry On The Grudge”: No. 4, Oct. 11, 2014
- “Trick”: No. 3, Sept. 15, 2016
- “The Theory of Whatever”: No. 1, Aug. 4, 2022
- “Ghosts (100 Days of Morning)”: No. 1, Oct. 22, 2026
Four albums peaked between No. 2 and No. 4 before he reached the top. His page counts two UK No. 1 albums and six UK Top 10 albums, so every album he has released has reached the Top 10. The gaps between releases are uneven. Counting from the chart dates above, the wait was about 2 years 7 months between the first and second albums, 5 years between the second and third, 2
years between the third and fourth, nearly 6 years between the fourth and fifth, and 4 years 2 months between the fifth and sixth. This is a calculation from the listed dates. Across the five gaps, which together span about 19.7 years, the average is about 3.9 years. Between the two No. 1 albums, the chart dates are 1,540 days apart, also a calculation from the listed dates.
When Official Charts reported his first No. 1 in July 2022, it described “The Theory of Whatever” as his first release in six years and his fifth consecutive Top 5 album. Treays said then: “Thank you for the Number 1!”
Chase & Status Stay at No. 2
Chase & Status have not yet topped the albums chart. Official Charts said in an Oct. 12 preview that their previous two albums both peaked at No. 2, so “Generic Everything” repeats that result. Their artist page lists no UK No. 1 albums.
The duo’s earlier run shows how long a No. 2 album can last. “No More Idols” debuted at No. 2 on Feb. 12, 2011, and then stayed on the chart for an initial run of 88 consecutive weeks. It logged 102 weeks in the Top 100 across later returns in 2013.
“Generic Everything” is their seventh studio album, according to an Official Charts first look at the singles chart dated Oct. 11. That article said the duo, Saul and Will, brought in several UK artists to contribute. Their single “Carnage,” featuring Little Simz, was forecast to enter the singles chart at No. 28, which would have been their 14th Top 40 entry.
What Else Entered the Chart
The Oct. 12 preview projected several entries that finished differently in the final chart. Official Charts reported these results on Oct. 16:
- Troye Sivan’s “She’s the Best” entered at No. 9, his fourth Top 10 album. The Oct. 12 preview saidit could reach No. 4, which would have equaled his best position.
- The Temperance Movement’s “New Promise Land Incorporated” reached No. 11, their highestchart placement since 2018, and topped the Independent Albums Chart.
- The Lilacs entered at No. 12.
- Pet Shop Boys entered at No. 19. The preview said their Alan Turing tribute album could becometheir 20th Top 10 album. It did not reach the Top 10.
- Cameron Winter’s live album entered at No. 20. The preview said it could be his first solo Top 40 entry.
- Basht. entered at No. 28 and Greta Van Fleet at No. 40.
- Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet” rose 17 places to No. 21 after a limited vinyl release. Thepreview had projected a rise of 27 places.
The comparison shows how much a midweek projection can move. Sivan finished five places below the projection. Carpenter’s rise was 10 places smaller than forecast. Both numbers are calculations from the two Official Charts reports.
The rest of the Top 10 held steady. Olivia Rodrigo’s latest album is No. 3 in its 18th week. Michael Jackson’s “The Essential” is No. 4 in its 280th week. Olivia Dean’s “The Art of Loving” climbed from No. 7 to No. 5 in its 55th week. Official Charts publishes the next chart on Oct. 23.
