Law Roach is ASOS’s first Stylist in Residence. The celebrity stylist will style six covers of the relaunched ASOS Magazine, plus seasonal campaigns and shoppable edits, in a partnership the British retailer announced on Sept. 19. The appointment arrived five days before ASOS reported its first quarterly customer growth in more than four years.
What ASOS Announced About Law Roach
The Stylist in Residence position is newly created, and Roach is its first holder. ASOS calls him an “Image Architect.” His remit covers styling seasonal campaigns, styling the six magazine covers, creating shoppable editorial edits and giving what the company called styling perspective and cultural storytelling across the brand. The partnership launches this autumn, according to ASOS.
The six covers lean on maximalist dressing, statement tailoring, elevated layering and modern heritage influences, ASOS said. Each cover comes with a shopping edit, so a reader can move from the image to the product, TheIndustry.fashion reported.
Roach said in the ASOS release that he has always been “fascinated by the power of fashion” to change how people see themselves. Vanessa Spence, ASOS’s executive vice president of brand and creative, said in the same release that Roach “is one of the most influential creative voices in fashion today.”
ASOS also tied the hire to London Fashion Week, where it partnered with Roach on a “La Watch Party” to share commentary with its community, FashionNetwork reported.
The Research Behind the Hire
ASOS grounded the appointment in a consumer survey. The company said 68% of consumers it surveyed agree that knowing what to buy is easier than knowing how to wear it. TheIndustry.fashion reported the figure as covering 1,952 UK consumers, while the ASOS release describes the group only as consumers surveyed.
Put another way, roughly two of every three respondents say choosing what to buy is easier than knowing how to wear it. TheIndustry.fashion reported that ASOS now positions itself as “The Stylist” for its shoppers.
The plan around Roach includes more than one product. ASOS Magazine returns as a quarterly digital publication with limited-edition print issues, and the retailer runs an AI Stylist tool through ChatGPT in the UK and US, TheIndustry.fashion reported.
The Campaign Around the Partnership
ASOS ties the hire to a customer-facing theme. According to the release, the partnership invites shoppers to “Style Your Moment,” and it says more announcements are planned throughout 2026. The release describes the six edits as one set built around a single relaunch issue of the magazine, each cover paired with a shopping edit curated by ASOS teams. TheIndustry.fashion described the magazine as quarterly going forward.
How the Appointment Fits ASOS’s Sept. 24 Trading Update
Five days after the announcement, ASOS published its fourth-quarter update for the fiscal year that ended Aug. 30. TheIndustry.fashion reported that gross merchandise value, the total value of goods sold, grew at a low single-digit rate in the fourth quarter, though full-year GMV fell 5%. That compares with a 12% decline the year before.
Other figures from the update:
- Adjusted EBITDA rose more than 25% and is expected to top £165 million.
- Gross margin exceeded 50%, up from 47.1% a year earlier.
- Net debt fell to about £110 million from £184.7 million.
- The UK and Germany posted positive GMV growth in the second half, and the US returned to growth in the fourth quarter.
- Active customers reached 16.4 million, and the fourth quarter was the first quarter of customer growth since the second quarter of fiscal 2022.
FashionNetwork reported that both results beat ASOS’s own guidance: gross margin came in above the company’s 48% to 50% range, and adjusted EBITDA landed above the midpoint of its £150 million to £180 million range. The midpoint of that range is £165 million.
The net debt figure works out to a reduction of £74.7 million, or about 40%. TheIndustry.fashion reported that about £116 million of proceeds from the sale of a fulfillment center contributed to that reduction, so the drop reflects an asset sale as well as trading. The gross margin gain is at least 2.9 percentage points.
CEO José Antonio Ramos Calamonte said “our recovery is broadening despite the macro backdrop,” per TheIndustry.fashion. FashionNetwork quoted him separately saying ASOS had reached “an inflection point” in its Q4 active customer base. Womenswear, which FashionNetwork described as ASOS’s priority category, grew 3% for the year and accelerated to 8% in the second half. FashionNetwork attributed that growth to partner brands and own labels including Topshop, Arrange and 4505.
Two of those labels appear in Roach’s first work. Complex reported that his debut shoppable edit includes bold prints and colorful pieces from ARRANGE, ASOS Design and Topshop. Topshop and Arrange are among the labels FashionNetwork said drove womenswear growth.
Roach’s Earlier Link to ASOS
Roach’s connection to ASOS began on a red carpet. Complex reported that he wore ASOS pieces to the British Fashion Awards in 2024. Roach told Complex that what he wore on that carpet was “one of my best looks to date,” and he said the moment gave both sides a sense of familiarity.
Roach has styled Zendaya, Celine Dion, Ariana Grande and Anya Taylor-Joy, and he received the CFDA’s inaugural Stylist Award, TheIndustry.fashion reported. Complex also listed Kim Kardashian among his past clients.
What Happens Next
ASOS said the partnership launches this autumn and that more announcements will come throughout 2026. It has given no other dates. Roach has already debuted his first shoppable edit, Complex reported.
