Jennifer Lawrence’s haircare line, mes°, has launched with three products priced from $34 to $52 and a $120 set, according to the brand’s site. Arcaea, a biotech beauty company, engineered the formulas. The brand’s promise on its site is “less time fixing your hair,” and it backs that with three products instead of a regimen. Per ounce, the serum costs about $26 and the mask about $10, a calculation from the listed prices and sizes.
The mes° Haircare Lineup and Prices
The Multitask Repair Mask costs $52 for 5 fluid ounces, about $10.40 an ounce. It goes on dry hair before shampooing, and the page says five minutes is enough. The Off-Duty Restyling Serum costs $44 for 1.7 fluid ounces, about $25.88 an ounce. The Good Roots Volume Mist costs $34 for 5 fluid ounces, or $6.80 an ounce. The Low Maintenance° Edit bundles all three for $120, against $130 if bought separately. That is a $10 discount, or about 7.7%, a calculation from the listed prices. Shipping is free on orders of $50 or more.
The Claims behind the Formulas
The brand reports its own test results on the product pages. For the mask, it says repeated use cut breakage by up to six times in a combing-machine test of 5,000 cycles and raised lipids in the hair’s protective barrier by up to 158%. For the serum, it reports 86% less frizz in high-humidity testing and heat protection up to 450°F, plus a 14-day consumer study of 120 adults in which 96% agreed their hair felt smoother. For the mist, it reports a 75% reduction in scalp oiliness in a 14-day clinical study of 38 women. The mist’s formula includes a proprietary ingredient, ARC-5, which the page says supports a balanced scalp microbiome. The brand says the products were tested on hair types 1 through 4 and are free of phthalates, parabens and sulfates. These are the company’s figures, published on its own pages.
Who Made the Formulas
The site credits the line as “Designed by Jennifer Lawrence. Engineered by Arcaea.” Lawrence says on the site that she found Arcaea founder Jasmina Aganovic after watching her TED Talk. Aganovic gave a TEDxBoston talk in November 2022 titled “Can Biotech Invent a Sustainable Future for the Beauty Industry?” In it, she questions whether natural or plant-derived ingredients are automatically sustainable and presents biotechnology as an alternative source. Arcaea describes itself as a biotech beauty company that combines biology, creative thinking and curiosity to invent products that “couldn’t exist before.” Its site says the company started in fragrance.
How mes° Positions the Line
Lawrence’s statement on the site is short: “Effortless hair is always chic.” The brand’s tagline is “Unbothered Beauty,” and it describes the formulas as “biodesigned for real life.” The launch campaign, titled “Come as you are,” features Lawrence and a cast that includes Elisa, Kristina and Tatiana.
