“The Parkers” was one of the funniest mother-daughter pairings on television. The show followed Nikki and Kim Parker as they navigated college, dating and everything else, with Mo’Nique and Countess Vaughn cracking the audience up with their comedy. More than two decades after the series ended, fans want to know what happened to the cast.

Who Was In The Parkers Cast?

“The Parkers” cast featured Mo’Nique, Countess Vaughn, Dorien Wilson, Jenna von Oÿ, Ken Lawson and Yvette Wilson in the sitcom, which ran for five seasons. Fans of “Moesha” will remember Vaughn as Kim Parker, Moesha Mitchell’s outspoken best friend. Kim left “Moesha” after its fourth season and she became the lead of “The Parkers,” which premiered in 1999.

Mo’Nique played Nikki Parker, a single mother who decided to return to school after putting her education on hold to raise her daughter, Kim. This was the central premise of the show, as both Kim and her mother were experiencing college at the same time.

Professor Stanley Oglevee, played by Dorien Wilson, was the object of Nikki’s affection. Jenna von Oÿ played Kim’s best friend, Stevie Van Lowe, while Ken Lawson played Thaddeus “T” Radcliffe, or T.

Yvette Wilson also played Andell Wilkerson in “Moesha” before bringing the character to “The Parkers,” where Andell was Nikki’s best friend and the owner of Andell’s restaurant. The series ran for 110 episodes before ending in 2004.

Where Are Mo’Nique And Countess Vaughn Now?

After “The Parkers,” Mo’Nique and Countess Vaughn took very different career paths. Mo’Nique moved into major film roles while Vaughn kept up with television and music. Mo’Nique was already an established comedian before playing Nikki, but her biggest career milestone came after “The Parkers.”

She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” at the 2010 Oscars. Her career took a major turn after this, and she appeared in films and TV series, including “Almost Christmas” and “The Deliverance.” She kept up with her stand-up career and had a special on Netflix titled “My Name Is Mo’Nique.”

Countess Vaughn continued acting after “The Parkers,” appearing in “Cuts” and “Let’s Stay Together.” She later appeared on reality shows including VH1’s “Celebrity Fit Club” and TV One’s “Hollywood Divas.” Vaughn was always a musician, and she released music during and after her years in television.

Kim’s confident and boisterous character won the hearts of viewers. To date, Kim Parker remains the role most people associate with Vaughn. Some characters simply become more famous than the actor who played them.

Where Is Dorien Wilson Now?

Professor Oglevee was already a working actor when “The Parkers” cast him, with credits going back to “Dream On” and “Sister, Sister” in the early ’90s. He continued working steadily after the sitcom ended.

Wilson reunited with Ken Lawson on the Bounce TV sitcom “In the Cut,” where he played Jay Weaver from 2015 to 2021. Lawson played his son, Kenny Clark. Wilson also appeared in projects including “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder,” “A Wesley Christmas” and its sequel, “A Wesley Christmas Wedding.” In September 2024, he received the Sophia Award from the Syracuse International Film Festival for outstanding creative achievement.

Where Is Jenna Von Oÿ Now?

Von Oÿ was already a familiar face before appearing on “The Parkers.” She had spent five seasons playing Six LeMeure on “Blossom” and voiced Stacey in “A Goofy Movie.” After playing Stevie Van Lowe, she stepped away from the sitcom grind and eventually settled in Nashville, where she focused on writing.

She has published two books, including “Situation Momedy: A Very Special Episode in Toddlerdom,” and started a podcast. Von Oÿ hasn’t completely left acting, and has shown up in projects like “Celebrity Wife Swap” over the years. Still, writing has become the bigger focus of her career since leaving the show behind.

Where is Ken Lawson Now?

Before “The Parkers,” Ken Lawson had TV credits including playing Carl on “In the House” from 1996 to 1999. On “The Parkers,” he had a recurring role in the first season before becoming a regular cast member for seasons two through five, appearing in more than 100 episodes as Thaddeus “T” Radcliffe.  He later reunited with Dorien Wilson on “In the Cut” as Kenny Clark, and has also appeared in “The Oval,” “Lumina” and “Run.”

Remembering Yvette Wilson

Andell Wilkerson’s warmth on screen was inseparable from the actress who played her. Wilson brought the character over from “Moesha,” where she first appeared as Andell in 1996, making her Nikki’s best friend and confidante on “The Parkers.”

Wilson died at 48 on June 14, 2012, in Los Angeles after a battle with cervical cancer. Before her death, she appeared in comedy films including “Friday,” “House Party 2” and “House Party 3,” and gained recognition through her stand-up performances, including appearances on “Def Comedy Jam.” Her death was mourned by her castmates and fans, who remembered her for the warmth and humor she brought to her roles. More than a decade later, Andell remains one of “The Parkers’” most memorable characters.

Why The Parkers Still Matters

Years after its finale, “The Parkers” remains a memorable part of Black sitcom history. The series stood out by centering a mother and daughter who were both navigating different stages of adulthood, while allowing their relationship to drive much of the comedy and emotion. Nikki’s decision to return to school alongside her daughter opened the door to stories about a mother rediscovering her independence while her daughter was just beginning to find hers.

The series also expanded the world introduced in “Moesha” while becoming its own show. Kim’s friendship with Stevie, Nikki’s friendship with Andell, and the ongoing tension between Nikki and Professor Oglevee gave “The Parkers” an identity of its own.

Shows like “The Parkers” also belong to a broader history of Black sitcoms that helped shape American television and influenced a generation of viewers. The series brought its own perspective to that tradition, balancing college life, family, friendship and comedy while putting a mother-daughter relationship at the center of the story.

That combination of recognizable characters, family-centered comedy and a distinctly Black perspective has helped “The Parkers” remain familiar to audiences years after it ended. The series continues to resonate with longtime fans while introducing Nikki, Kim and the rest of the cast to new viewers.
