Hugh Jackman’s new chapter with Sutton Foster is getting plenty of attention, but another quieter move has fans talking too. Before the pair stepped out together at the 2026 Met Gala, Jackman reportedly relisted a New York apartment he once shared with ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness. The timing has added a sharper edge to the story, especially as the actor continues moving from a 27-year marriage into a very public romance that began under Broadway lights.

Hugh Jackman, Sutton Foster and the Message Behind the Sale

The Daily Mail reports that Jackman put a West Village apartment he still co-owns with Furness back on the market on March 31, just weeks before his Met Gala appearance with Foster. The five-bedroom, six-bathroom Manhattan property was once listed for AUD$57.5 million, but its new asking price is reportedly AUD$41.5 million.

Jackman and Furness finalized their divorce in June 2025, though they are still dividing shared assets. For celebrity watchers, that kind of real estate move can read like more than paperwork. It signals closure, especially when it comes right before a major public relationship moment.

The former couple married in 1996 and announced their separation in 2023 after 27 years together. They previously attended several Met Galas as a pair, with their last joint appearance coming in 2023.

How Hugh Jackman & Sutton Foster Went From Broadway Friends to Romance

Jackman and Foster went public in January 2025, and their connection did not appear out of nowhere. Per People, they first became friends in the early 2000s through Broadway circles, long before romance rumors followed them.

Their bond grew stronger when they starred together in the Broadway revival of The Music Man. Foster praised him in 2022, saying, “The best thing that’s happened out of this whole thing is that I’ve made a new friend, which you never anticipate.”

She added, “We always joke that after 40, you don’t really make new friends! He’s a dream and so kind and talented and is even more generous. He’s pretty fantastic.”

Foster also called working with him exciting, saying, “Talk about charisma. I’m just so excited to be in the room with him and learn from him and work with him and to be able to do this classic musical.”

Jackman also admitted Foster’s talent intimidated him. “I saw her do Thoroughly Modern Millie when you were like 4 years old,” he joked on Late Night with Seth Meyers. “I’ve watched everything she’s done and it’s amazing.”

Met Gala Debut Sparks Criticism and a Priceless Moment

Jackman and Foster made their 2026 Met Gala arrival as a couple on Monday, with Jackman in a black tuxedo and Foster in a glittering gold one-shoulder gown. The romantic debut drew backlash online, where some fans felt it came too soon after his split from Furness.

“Thumbs down! It’s forever team Debbie over here!!” one person wrote. Another added, “Poor Deborra,” while others reacted with “Not a fan,” “I lost big respect for him,” and “Yes, pathetic.”

Still, Jackman focused on a different memory from the night. On the Today Show, he recalled Stevie Nicks performing with Sabrina Carpenter as Beyoncé watched with Blue Ivy. “Stevie Nicks came out and sang and I was sitting,” he said. “I’m gonna do some more name dropping, but there was Beyoncé and Rihanna, and I look over, and Beyoncé was just [tapping] her daughter, who was there, and just had tears in her eyes.”

“Then I was like, that moment right there, that is priceless.”

The timing of the listing raises questions about whether the move was purely financial or part of a broader effort to reset his public image ahead of stepping out with Sutton Foster.
