Dove put its first fine fragrance on sale Oct. 27 at $19.57, a price that matches the 1957 launch of its Beauty Bar, in a one-time online drop at dovefragrance.com, Unilever North America said in an Oct. 22 release. Dove Original Fragrance recreates the scent of the Dove Original Beauty Bar, a product the company says has been part of daily routines for nearly 70 years. The company set the price at a year and the release at a single sales window, which turns a scent into a collectible with a deadline.

What Dove Original Fragrance Includes

The fragrance is a bottled version of the Beauty Bar’s scent, developed with fragrance developer Ann Gottlieb. Dove describes it as soft, clean and familiar, and made for every day. The glass bottle copies the bar’s curved shape and carries a sculptural gold Dove bird cap. Dana Paolucci, head of engagement marketing for Dove U.S., said in the release that the Beauty Bar scent is “one of the most recognizable in beauty.” She said the fragrance “is the result of listening to our community.” Gottlieb said in the same release that the most memorable fragrances make people feel something. She described the scent as instantly recognizable.

How the Drop Worked

Dove opened a waitlist at dovefragrance.com on Oct. 22 and began sales at 9 a.m. Pacific, or noon Eastern, on Oct. 27. The company called it a limited-edition social drop with limited quantity. When the bottles sell out, it said, Dove will not restock them. The Beauty Bar itself stays on shelves at retailers nationwide. The fragrance is the part that disappears. The 2026 sale date sits 69 years after the 1957 launch the price refers to, a calculation from the two dates, which the release rounds to nearly 70 years.

Why the Price is the Product

At $19.57, Dove has attached its history to the sticker. A shopper does not need the release to read the number, and the number works as an advertisement for the bar that supplies the scent. The company is selling what it calls one of the most recognizable scents in beauty, and it is pricing it so the cost recalls the product’s age. The other side of the argument is straightforward: a dated price is a marketing device and does not change what is in the bottle. The release lists no scent notes, so the buyer is paying for recognition rather than a described formula.

Unilever’s Role in the Launch

Unilever North America, which owns Dove, says its products reach 3.7 billion people daily and that its 2025 sales were €50.5 billion. The release says Dove’s Self-Esteem Project aims to educate 250 million young people by 2030.
