“The One About Matthew Perry” drew 9.5 million views in its first six days and ranked No. 1 on Netflix’s global English-language TV chart for the week of Oct. 26 through Nov. 1, according to Netflix’s Top 10 data. The three-episode docuseries premiered Oct. 27.
The chart splits on a second measure. “Nobody Wants This” season 3 drew fewer views, 7.2 million, but more viewing time, 34.3 million hours against 29.0 million for the Perry series. The two titles rank differently depending on which number a reader trusts.
How the Top 10 Numbers Compare
Netflix reports views as hours watched divided by a title’s runtime. The Perry series logged 29.0 million hours against a runtime of 3 hours and 3 minutes, which works out to about 3.05 hours of viewing per view, a calculation from Netflix’s figures. “Nobody Wants This” runs 4 hours and 45 minutes, and its 34.3 million hours work out to about 4.76 hours per view.
Netflix’s chart lists three more titles behind those two. “Below” drew 3.8 million views, “The Diplomat” season 4 drew 2.9 million and “Love Is Blind” season 11 drew 2.8 million. The Perry series led “Nobody Wants This” by 2.3 million views, a 32% margin. “Love Is Blind” season 11 runs 10 hours and 21 minutes and logged 28.5 million hours, close to the Perry series, on 2.8 million views.
What the Docuseries Covers
Netflix describes the series as a portrait of the actor best known as Chandler on “Friends.” Mary Robertson, an Emmy-winning director, made it. Participants include his sister Mia Perry Bowick, his friends Roger Castillo and David Pressman, former NBC Entertainment president Warren Littlefield, “Friends” writer and producer Jeff Strauss and actor Kevin Pollak.
Netflix says the five “Friends” co-stars did not participate and appear only in archival footage. Robertson said the film is about honoring the struggle and the joy, and she said the cast loves Perry and is grieving in their own ways.
What the Family Said About Making It
Bowick said working with Robertson and her team was “cathartic.” The first week covers six days of viewing, from Oct. 27 through Nov. 1, so the next chart, which Netflix publishes after the week of Nov. 2 through Nov. 8, will show the first full week.
