Funkmaster Flex brawled with a man at Madison Square Garden during the Knicks season opener on Tuesday night, and former Hot 97 executive TT Torrez now alleges Flex shoved her during the same night. Flex denies being punched and says the other man tried to bait him.
Funkmaster Flex Fight Erupts At Madison Square Garden
The fight happened during the Knicks vs. Sixers opener on October 20, the night LeBron James made his Sixers debut, according to HotNewHipHop. TMZ says video shows Flex, dressed in all black, crossing a crowded area toward another man. The scene turned chaotic and people ran for cover. Security and an NYPD officer moved Flex into a hallway.
Vice describes the footage as poorly filmed. In one angle, the camera moves behind another person and the contact stays out of view. Flex ends up on the ground at the end of the clip, and Vice says it is unclear whether he fell during the altercation or during the response by security.
A second video shows security and an officer pushing Flex out of a doorway while he keeps yelling at the other man. TMZ contacted the NYPD, which said it had no information on the incident. Madison Square Garden had not replied. Reports show no arrests, charges, or official outcomes.
Flex Disputes The Punch Narrative
Flex posted the footage on Instagram early Wednesday. His caption questions whether the clip shows the moment he was punched in the face and says he did not see that part. Some online chatter claimed the other man hit him. Flex wrote “ASSAULTED WHEN?” and said he was “MINDING MY BUISNESS,” per HotNewHipHop.
He identified the other man as music executive Shadow Stokes. He called Stokes an “AMBULANCE CHASER” and claimed Stokes threw a drink on him. According to Flex, Stokes and another industry figure have an “ACTIVE CASE” against him and his company, and they want to provoke him into a payout. Stokes has not publicly responded, and the details of that case remain unclear. Every claim here comes from Flex, and no outlet confirmed them independently.
TT Torrez Alleges Flex Shoved Her
A second account complicates the night. TT Torrez, who served as VP of Artist & Label Relations and music director at Hot 97 from 2014 until she left in 2025, alleges Flex shoved her in the Delta Lounge after an exchange with her husband, according to Complex and Baller Alert. Her representative says Flex “shoved her violently.” The rep also says Torrez filed an online police report that night. The reports I reviewed do not include a copy of that report.
Her team describes the night as a “deeply disturbing and traumatic experience” and alleges years of harassment, intimidation, and bullying by Flex. The rep says a prior dispute ended in a settlement with MediaCo Hot 97 and a non-disparagement agreement, which the rep claims Flex violated. The rep also says the circulating clip does not show the full story. Former Hot 97 colleagues Laura Stylez and Ebro Darden publicly supported Torrez, per Complex.
The two accounts do not clearly connect. Flex’s posts focus on the man he calls Stokes, and Torrez’s team focuses on a push involving her. Baller Alert notes that any link between Flex’s reference to an active legal case and the Torrez settlement remains unclear. Complex also points to Flex’s 2003 guilty plea to a harassment violation after an altercation with former Power 105.1 personality Big Steph Lova. His lawyer said at the time that he denied striking her.
What Comes Next For Flex
Flex says he will address the incident on his Hot 97 show on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. Complex reports his attorney, Chris Cabanillas, will speak on air. Vice notes the show comes during his 33rd year on the air. Several questions remain open. Did the NYPD receive a complaint from either side? Will Madison Square Garden confirm it removed Flex? Does any additional video show how the first confrontation started? Torrez’s team says she will not respond on social media and will pursue the matter through legal counsel. Stokes has stayed quiet so far. Until one of them speaks, the public record consists of one clip and competing statements.
