Wiz Khalifa’s cannabis brand, Khalifa Kush, debuts on Oct. 31 in 36 dispensaries across New York State, with seven of them in New York City, CEO DJ Saul told amNewYork. The launch puts the brand in about 5% of the state’s licensed stores on day one. New York’s Office of Cannabis Management lists 757 adult-use dispensaries, and 36 is 4.8% of that, a calculation from the two figures. Saul’s pitch is demand, and day one covers a small share of the shelves.
What Khalifa Kush is Selling in New York
The brand is California-based and was founded about 15 years ago around a strain tailored to Wiz Khalifa’s preferences, amNewYork reported. It launched in the medical market first and moved into recreational sales a few years later. It sells mainly flower and prerolls, and the New York launch centers on two strains, KK and Violet Sky. The brand also sells an apparel line online, amNewYork reported.
The brand’s site lists five strain lines: KK, Khalifa Mints, Violet Sky, Baby Turtle and Point Breeze. New York gets two of the five, or 40%, a calculation from that list. The site also lists vapes, edibles and concentrates among its categories and uses the tagline “Black, Yellow, Bold.”
The Skyworld Partnership
Khalifa Kush partnered with Skyworld Cannabis, a New York-based cultivator and distributor, to enter the state. Skyworld’s site says it operates in western New York, calls the company Indigenous-owned and lists state licenses for cultivation, processing and distribution. The site says Carmelo Anthony launched Hall of Flame with Skyworld.
Why New York, according to the CEO
Saul said New York has long been the brand’s most requested market. “New York has been asking for KK for years and years now,” he said. He said Khalifa visits the state at least a couple of times a year. Saul also pointed to the founder’s own habits as part of the pitch: “This is literally Wiz smoking his own product.” A celebrity cannabis brand sells on one claim, that the person on the label uses the product, and Saul made it directly.
The Competition
Saul acknowledged that New York is hard to enter because so many options already sit on the shelf. He said the company is confident in its consistency and quality and is “way more excited than we are nervous.” The state’s own data frames that remark. A launch in 36 of 757 stores leaves about 721 licensed dispensaries without the brand, a calculation from the same figures. The Office of Cannabis Management’s 2025 annual report counted 519 open adult-use dispensaries as of Nov. 30, 2025, and adult-use sales of $1,482.3 million for the year through that date. Khalifa Kush goes on sale in New York on Oct. 31.
